Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the questions we hear most often. We hope this helps answer some of yours!
How do I sign my child up for the Reading Bridge program?
Click on the "Register" button at the top, you will be redirected to a form to sign your child up. Registration for the summer of 2024 opens in March.
I have more than one student. Can I sign them both up?
Yes, but be sure to register each child separately to ensure their place in the program. We have had multiple children from the same family in our program at the same time several times in the past. Your whole family is welcome to enjoy the library and relax with a book while your children are being tutored.
My child is going into Kindergarten next year. Can they participate in the program?
Reading Bridge is for students who have already finished Kindergarten or any grade through 5th. Keep reading to them and talking about good books! We would love to have them join us next summer!
We can only attend a few of the sessions offered. Can we still sign up?
Although we'd love to have your child in our program, we see the best results when students come to a minimum of six (6) sessions.
If we don't live in a city where Reading Bridge is offered, can we still sign up?
Absolutely! If you can transport your child to one of our locations, we would love to have them participate! Any child who has completed Kindergarten-5th grade may sign up for Reading Bridge tutoring.
How can I become a tutor for the Reading Bridge program?
Send us a message on the Contact page. Make sure to select "Become a Trained Tutor" in the subject option drop-down menu. It is preferable to have a teaching degree (or be in the process of earning one), extensive substitute experience, a solid history of working with kids, and a good reference. Once accepted into the program, you will be required to attend our customized training prior to starting your tutoring sessions.
What can I do at home to help my child improve their reading and writing over the summer?
Reading to your child for 20 minutes every day is a great way to keep them thinking about reading and enjoying books! Always make it fun and interesting! Find books your child likes and avoid making it a chore.
I'd like a Reading Bridge Summer Tutoring program in my city. How do I start?
We have been asked about offering our services in other SD and MN cities. Please send us a message on the Contact page and be sure to select "Become a Host Library" in the subject option drop-down menu. We'll be in touch soon!
This is an awesome program! How can I donate to Reading Bridge?
